Los Indios Summary

Indios, Texas is a small town located in Cameron County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the Rio Grande, just south of the city of Brownsville. The population of Indios was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Indios was founded in 1848 by a group of Mexican settlers who were looking for a place to settle and farm. The town was originally called El Indio, which means “the Indian” in Spanish. The name was changed to Indios in 1852.
The town was a major center of trade for the region, and it was also a popular stop for travelers. In the late 19th century, the town was a major hub for the cattle industry.
In the early 20th century, Indios was a major center for the cotton industry. The town was also home to a large number of Mexican immigrants who worked in the cotton fields.

Geography

Indios is located in Cameron County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the Rio Grande, just south of the city of Brownsville. The town is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 77 and State Highway 4.
The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills.

Economy
