Lone Oak is a small town located in Hunt County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 20 miles east of Greenville, the county seat. The population of Lone Oak was 1,072 at the 2010 census.

History

Lone Oak was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after a large oak tree that stood alone in the area. The tree was used as a landmark for travelers and settlers.

The first post office in Lone Oak was established in 1876 The town was incorporated in 1884

In the early 1900s, Lone Oak was a thriving agricultural community. Cotton was the main crop, and the town had several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the cotton industry declined. The Great Depression further weakened the town's economy.
