Kennard Summary
Kennard, Texas is a small town located in Houston County, Texas. It is situated about 10 miles south of Crockett and about 20 miles north of Lufkin. The population of Kennard was estimated to be around 500 people in 2020.
History
Kennard was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Crockett. The town was named after the Kennard family, who were among the first settlers. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for timber production. The timber industry was the main source of income for the town until the early 1900s, when the oil industry began to take over.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to several oil wells, and the population began to grow. By the mid-1900s, the town had become a center for oil production and the population had grown to over 1,000 people.
