Danbury Summary

Danbury, Texas is a small city located in Brazoria County, Texas. It is situated about 30 miles south of Houston and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The city has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Danbury was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally known as “Germantown” and was later renamed “Danbury” after the nearby town of Danbury, Connecticut. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Danbury was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and several stores.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as the population shifted to larger cities. The town’s population dropped from 1,500 in 1950 to just over 1,000 in 1960.

Geography

Danbury is located in southeastern Brazoria County, Texas. It is situated about 30 miles south of Houston and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The city has a total area of 1.3 square miles, all of which is land.
