Crowell Summary

Crowell is a small town located in Foard County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the western edge of the Texas Panhandle, approximately 100 miles northwest of Wichita Falls. The population of Crowell was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Crowell was founded in 1891 by the Santa Fe Railroad. The town was named after the railroad's president, William H. Crowell. The first post office was established in 1892.
In the early 1900s, Crowell was a thriving agricultural center. The town was home to several cotton gins, a flour mill, and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a bank, a hotel, and several stores.
In the 1920s, the town's population began to decline as the Great Depression hit the area. The population continued to decline until the 1950s, when the town began to experience a resurgence.

Geography

Crowell is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and State Highway 6. It is situated on the western edge of the Texas Panhandle, approximately 100 miles northwest of Wichita Falls. The town is located in a semi-arid region, with an average annual precipitation of about 20 inches.
The town is located in a flat, open area, with no major bodies of water nearby. The nearest major body of water is Lake Kemp, located about 25 miles to the east.
