Callisburg is a small town located in Cooke County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 10 miles north of Gainesville, the county seat. The population of Callisburg was estimated to be 1,092 in 2019.

History

Callisburg was founded in 1881 by William Callis, a former Confederate soldier. He named the town after himself and opened a general store. The town was incorporated in 1883 and a post office was established in 1884.
In the early 1900s, the town was a thriving agricultural center. Cotton, corn, and wheat were the main crops grown in the area. The town also had a cotton gin, a grist mill, and a blacksmith shop.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the Great Depression hit the area. The population decreased and many businesses closed.
In the 1940s, the town began to recover as the economy improved. The population increased and new businesses opened.

Geography

Callisburg is located in Cooke County, Texas, about 10 miles north of Gainesville, the county seat. The town is situated on the banks of the Red River, which forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma.
The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills. The climate is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters.
