History
Morris County was established in 1875 and named for Thomas Morris, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The county was originally part of Titus County, but was later divided into its own county. The first settlers in the area were Native Americans, who were later joined by European settlers in the early 19th century. The county was largely agricultural, with cotton and corn being the main crops.
