Bedford, Texas is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The city is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area and is located about 15 miles from downtown Fort Worth. As of the 2010 census, the population of Bedford was 46,979, making it the fifteenth largest city in the state.

History

Bedford was founded in 1847 by William and Mary Bedford, who were among the first settlers in the area. The city was originally known as Bedford City, but the name was changed to Bedford in 1892. The city was incorporated in 1953.

Geography

Bedford is located at 32°51'25" North, 97°7'45" West (32.856944, -97.129028). The city has a total area of 16.2 square miles, of which 16.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.

Economy

Bedford is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and healthcare. The city is also home to several large employers, including Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin, and the University of Texas at Arlington.

As of the 2010 census, the population of Bedford was 46,979. The racial makeup of the city was 75.3% White, 11.2% African American, 0.5% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 2.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.2% of the population.
