Stanton Summary

Stanton is a small city located in Powell County, Kentucky. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is part of the Eastern Kentucky Coalfield. The city has a population of 1,845 people as of the 2010 census.

History

Stanton was founded in 1883 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The city was named after the railroad's president, William Stanton. The city was incorporated in 1891 and was the county seat of Powell County until the county seat was moved to Stanton in 1895.
