Salt Lick Summary

Salt Lick is a small unincorporated community located in Bath County, Kentucky, United States. It is situated along the banks of the Salt Lick Creek, which is a tributary of the Licking River. The community is located approximately 10 miles south of Owingsville, the county seat, and is part of the Mount Sterling micropolitan area.

History

The area that is now Salt Lick was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The settlers named the area after the salt licks that were found in the area. The salt licks were used by the local wildlife, and the settlers used the salt to preserve their food.
The first post office in the area was established in 1817, and the community was officially incorporated in 1820. The town was named after the salt licks that were found in the area.
In the late 1800s, the town was a major stop on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The railroad brought in new settlers and businesses, and the town grew rapidly.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a school, a church, and a post office.
