Oneida Summary
Oneida is a small unincorporated community located in Clay County, Kentucky. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, approximately 20 miles south of Manchester, the county seat. The population of Oneida was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020.
History
Oneida was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the Oneida Indian tribe, which had a settlement in the area. The first post office was established in 1845.
In the late 1800s, Oneida was a thriving community with several stores, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, and a school. The town was also home to a number of churches, including the Oneida Baptist Church, which was founded in 1876.
In the early 1900s, Oneida began to decline as the railroad bypassed the town. The population decreased and many of the businesses closed. In the 1950s, the town was revitalized when the Kentucky Department of Highways built a new highway through the area. This allowed for easier access to the larger cities in the region.

Oneida is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Clay County, Kentucky. The town is situated on the banks of the Red Bird River, which flows through the area.
