Morganfield Summary
Morganfield is a city located in Union County, Kentucky, United States. It is the county seat of Union County and is located along the Ohio River. The population was 2,717 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Morganfield was first settled in the early 1800s. The town was named after General Daniel Morgan, a Revolutionary War hero. The town was incorporated in 1854.
During the Civil War, Morganfield was a major supply depot for the Confederate Army. The town was also the site of a major battle in 1862, when Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant attacked the Confederate forces in the area. The Union forces were victorious and the town was occupied by Union troops for the remainder of the war.

Morganfield is located at 37°41'25" North, 87°59'45" West (37.690278, -87.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

The economy of Morganfield is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large manufacturing plants, including a paper mill, a steel mill, and a chemical plant. The city is also home to several large farms, which produce corn, soybeans, and other crops.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,717 people, 1,093 households, and 717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,220.2 people per square mile (470.2/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 527.2 per square mile (203.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.81% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,917, and the median income for a family was $35,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,945.
