Manor Creek Summary

Manor Creek is a small unincorporated community located in the southeastern corner of Kentucky, in the county of Harlan. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and is surrounded by the towns of Harlan, Cumberland, and Pineville. The population of Manor Creek is estimated to be around 500 people.

History

Manor Creek was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The town was originally known as “Manor”, and was named after the nearby creek. The creek was named after the manor house that was built by the settlers. The manor house was destroyed in a fire in the late 1800s, but the name of the town remained.
In the early 1900s, the town was a thriving coal mining community. The coal mines provided jobs for many of the residents, and the town grew rapidly. The town was also home to several churches, a school, and a post office.
In the 1950s, the coal industry began to decline, and many of the residents moved away in search of work. The town’s population decreased significantly, and the town began to decline.
