London Summary
London, Kentucky is a city located in Laurel County, Kentucky, United States. It is the county seat of Laurel County and the principal city of the London Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Laurel and Clay counties. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 7,993.
History
London was founded in 1826 by Levi Todd, a Revolutionary War veteran and the brother of Mary Todd Lincoln. The city was named after London, England, and was incorporated in 1874.
Geography
London is located in the southeastern part of Laurel County at 37°5′17″N 84°7′17″W (37.087950, -84.121445). It is situated in the Cumberland Plateau region of the Appalachian Mountains. The city is located along the Rockcastle River, which flows south to the Cumberland River.

London is the economic center of Laurel County and the surrounding area. The city is home to several major employers, including the London-Corbin Airport, the London-Corbin Industrial Park, and the London-Corbin Medical Center.

Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 7,993 people, 3,093 households, and 2,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 972.3 people per square mile (375.3/km2). There were 3,521 housing units at an average density of 429.3 per square mile (165.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 2.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
There were 3,093 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,813, and the median income for a family was $34,945. Males had a median income of $30,917 versus $20,945 for females.
