La Center is a small city located in Ballard County, Kentucky, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, about 25 miles south of Paducah. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
La Center was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Wickliffe. The town was named after the nearby La Center Creek, which was named by French explorers in the late 1700s. The creek was named after the French phrase “la cen-tre”, which means “the center”.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 1800s, the railroad came through and the town began to grow. The railroad brought new businesses and industries to the area, and the population began to increase.
