Hiseville Summary

Hiseville is a small town located in Barren County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Glasgow Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Hiseville was founded in 1818 by William Hise, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named after him. Hiseville was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Hiseville is located at 37°2′17″N 85°59′45″W (37.038125, -85.995890). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Hiseville is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a beef cattle farm, and a poultry farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 152 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.2 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 372.2 per square mile (143.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.45% White, 0.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
