Hendron Summary

Hendron is a small unincorporated community located in Christian County, Kentucky. It is situated along the banks of the Cumberland River, approximately 10 miles south of Hopkinsville. The population of Hendron was estimated to be around 200 people in 2000.

History

Hendron was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The community was named after the Hendron family, who were among the first settlers. The community was originally known as “Hendron’s Station”, and was a stop on the stagecoach line between Hopkinsville and Clarksville, Tennessee.
In the late 1800s, Hendron was a thriving community with a post office, a general store, a blacksmith shop, a grist mill, and a school. The school was built in 1891 and served the community until it closed in the 1950s.
