Hartford Summary

Hartford, Kentucky is a small city located in Ohio County, Kentucky. It is the county seat of Ohio County and is located on the banks of the Ohio River. The city has a population of 2,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

Hartford was founded in 1810 by a group of settlers from Hartford, Connecticut. The city was named after the Connecticut city and was incorporated in 1819. The city was an important port on the Ohio River and was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, the city was occupied by Confederate forces and was the site of a major battle in 1862.
