Guthrie is a small city located in Todd County, Kentucky, United States. It is situated along the banks of the Green River, approximately 20 miles north of the state capital of Frankfort. The population of Guthrie was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Guthrie was founded in 1820 by William Guthrie, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was originally known as Guthrie’s Landing, and was a popular stop for steamboats traveling up and down the Green River. In 1836, the town was officially incorporated as Guthrie.
During the Civil War, Guthrie was a major supply depot for the Confederate Army. The town was also the site of a major battle in 1862, when Union forces attempted to capture the town. The battle was a Confederate victory, and Guthrie remained in Confederate hands until the end of the war.
In the late 19th century, Guthrie became a major center for the tobacco industry. The town was home to several tobacco warehouses, and was a major shipping point for tobacco products.

Guthrie is located at 37°25'25" North, 86°45'45" West (37.423, -86.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all land.

Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,420.8 people per square mile (548.7/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 627.7 per square mile (242.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 2.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,917, and the median income for a family was $35,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,945. About 14.2% of families and 17.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.2% of those under age 18 and 16.7% of those age 65 or over.
