Fredonia Summary

Fredonia, Kentucky is a small town located in the western part of the state, in McLean County. It is situated on the banks of the Green River, and is part of the Owensboro metropolitan area. History

Fredonia was founded in 1818 by a group of settlers from Virginia. The town was named after the state of Virginia, and was originally known as “Virginia Town”. The town was officially incorporated in 1820, and the first post office was established in 1821.
The town grew slowly over the years, and by the mid-1800s it had become a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The town also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a school.
