Columbus Summary
Columbus, Kentucky is a small city located in Hickman County, Kentucky. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, just south of the Kentucky-Tennessee border. The city has a population of approximately 2,000 people and is the county seat of Hickman County.
History
The area that is now Columbus was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The town was originally known as Hickman Court House, and was the county seat of Hickman County. In 1819, the town was renamed Columbus, after Christopher Columbus.
In the early 1900s, the town experienced a period of growth and development. The town was home to several businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and a hotel.
In the late 1800s, the town was home to a large number of African American residents. The town was also home to a number of churches, including the First Baptist Church, which was founded in 1867.

Columbus is located in western Kentucky, on the banks of the Mississippi River. The city is situated in a rural area, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city is located approximately 30 miles south of the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
