Centertown Summary

Centertown is a small unincorporated community located in the northern part of Ohio County, Kentucky. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 10 miles south of the county seat of Hartford. The population of Centertown was estimated to be around 500 in 2020.

History

Centertown was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Virginia. The town was originally known as “Centerville” and was later changed to “Centertown”. The town was officially incorporated in 1845.
Centertown was a thriving river port town in the mid-1800s. It was a major stop for steamboats traveling up and down the Ohio River. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a sawmill, a gristmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the late 1800s, the town began to decline as the steamboat industry declined and the railroad bypassed Centertown. The town’s population decreased and many of the businesses closed.

Geography

Centertown is located in the northern part of Ohio County, Kentucky. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 10 miles south of the county seat of Hartford. The town is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland.
