Bloomfield Summary

Bloomfield is a small town located in Nelson County, Kentucky, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Rolling Fork River, approximately 20 miles south of Louisville. The population of Bloomfield was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Bloomfield was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was originally known as “Bloomfield Station” and was established in 1817. The town was named after the many wildflowers that grew in the area. The town was incorporated in 1820 and was the first town in Nelson County.
In the early 1800s, Bloomfield was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several mills, a distillery, and a tannery. The town also had a post office, a school, and several churches.

Bloomfield is located at 37°45'25" North, 85°37'45" West (37.756944, -85.629167). The town is situated on the banks of the Rolling Fork River, approximately 20 miles south of Louisville. The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
