Willard is a small city located in Box Elder County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,837 at the 2010 census, an increase from the 2000 figure of 2,541.

History

Willard was first settled in 1851 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by William Willard. The town was named after him. The first settlers built a fort and a sawmill, and the town grew quickly. By 1868, Willard had a post office, a school, and a store.

In the late 19th century, Willard was a major stop on the Union Pacific Railroad. The railroad brought in new settlers and businesses, and the town grew rapidly. By the early 20th century, Willard had become a thriving agricultural community.

Willard is located at 41°14'17" North, 112°2'17" West (41.238, -112.038). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,541 people, 845 households, and 690 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,093.2 people per square mile (422.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White, 0.12% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.86% of the population.

There were 845 households, out of which 44.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.3% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.37.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 33.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
