Copperhill Summary

Copperhill is a small town located in Polk County, Tennessee, United States. It is situated along the Tennessee-Georgia border, and is the only town in the state that is located on both sides of the state line. The town is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Copperhill was 1,876.

History

The area that is now Copperhill was first settled in the early 1800s by settlers from North Carolina and Virginia. The town was originally known as "Copper Hill" and was named after the copper ore that was found in the area. The town was incorporated in 1891 and was officially renamed Copperhill in 1895.
In the late 1800s, Copperhill was a major center for copper mining. The town was home to several copper mines, including the Copperhill Mine, which was the largest copper mine in the United States at the time. The copper mines were a major source of employment for the town, and the copper industry was the main source of income for the town until the early 1900s.
In the early 1900s, the copper industry began to decline, and the town began to focus on other industries, such as timber and tourism. The town was also home to several resorts, including the Copperhill Hotel, which was built in the 1920s. The hotel was a popular destination for tourists, and was a major source of income for the town.
