Hayti Heights Summary

Hayti Heights is a small city located in Pemiscot County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, just south of the city of Caruthersville. The population of Hayti Heights was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Hayti Heights was founded in the late 19th century by African-American settlers. The city was named after the African nation of Haiti, which was the first independent black republic in the world. The city was incorporated in 1901 and was the first African-American city in the state of Missouri.
The city was a thriving community in the early 20th century, with a variety of businesses and services. It was home to a number of churches, schools, and other organizations. The city was also home to a number of prominent African-American leaders, including Dr. George Washington Carver, who was born in the city in 1864.

Geography

Hayti Heights is located at 36°25'25" North, 89°41'17" West (36.423, -89.688). The city is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, just south of the city of Caruthersville. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Economy

The economy of Hayti Heights is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to a number of small businesses, including a number of restaurants, convenience stores, and other retail establishments. The city is also home to a number of manufacturing plants, including a paper mill and a furniture factory.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,541.7 people per square mile.
