North Troy Summary

Troy, Vermont is a small town located in the northeast corner of the state, in Orleans County. It is bordered by the towns of Lowell, Coventry, and Westfield. The town was first settled in 1790 and was incorporated in 1792. The town was named after the city of Troy, New York.

History

The first settlers of Troy were from Massachusetts and Connecticut. They were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and the potential for farming. The town was originally called “Troytown” and was part of the town of Lowell. In 1792, the town was officially incorporated as Troy.
The town was primarily an agricultural community, with dairy farming being the main industry. The town also had several sawmills and gristmills. In the late 19th century, the town began to develop a small manufacturing industry, with several small factories producing furniture, tools, and other goods.
In the early 20th century, the town began to develop a tourist industry, with several hotels and resorts being built in the area. The town also had a small ski area, which operated until the late 1960s.

Geography

Troy is located in the northeast corner of Vermont, in Orleans County. It is bordered by the towns of Lowell, Coventry, and Westfield. The town is located in the Green Mountains, and is home to several small mountains, including Mount Hor, Mount Abraham, and Mount Pisgah.
