Westwood Summary

Westwood, Missouri is a small city located in the St. Louis metropolitan area. It is situated in the western part of St. Louis County, and is bordered by the cities of Ballwin, Ellisville, and Wildwood. History

Westwood was founded in 1892 by a group of German immigrants who had recently arrived in the United States. The city was named after the nearby Westwood Hills, which were named after the German word for “west woods.” The city was incorporated in 1895, and the first mayor was elected in 1896.
In the early 1900s, Westwood was a thriving agricultural community, with many of its residents working in the nearby farms and orchards. The city was also home to several small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a post office.
In the 1950s, Westwood began to experience a period of growth and development. The city was annexed by the City of St. Louis in 1954, and the population began to increase. In the 1960s, the city was home to several new businesses, including a grocery store, a bank, and a movie theater.
