St Robert Summary
St. Robert is a city located in Pulaski County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the Fort Leonard Wood Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census.
History
St. Robert was founded in 1878 by Robert S. Thomas, a former Confederate soldier. The city was named after Thomas' father, Robert Thomas. The city was incorporated in 1887.
Geography
St. Robert is located at 37°45'25" North, 92°7'25" West (37.756944, -92.123611). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all land.
Economy
St. Robert is home to Fort Leonard Wood, a major U.S. Army installation. The base is the largest employer in the area, and provides a significant economic boost to the city. Other major employers in the area include Walmart, Lowe's, and the Pulaski County government.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,039 people, 1,845 households, and 1,521 families residing in the city. The population density was 976.2 people per square mile (377.3/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 373.3 per square mile (144.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.45% White, 14.45% African American, 0.68% Native American, 1.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.45% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 44.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% were non-families. 18.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 5.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.2 males.
