St Clair Summary
St. Clair is a city located in Franklin County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Franklin County.
History
St. Clair was founded in 1819 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after General Arthur St. Clair, a Revolutionary War hero. The first post office was established in 1820.
In 1821 the first courthouse was built in St Clair The town was incorporated in 1867
In the late 19th century, St. Clair was a major stop on the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway. The railroad brought many new businesses to the town, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
