Raymore Summary

Raymore, Missouri is a city located in Cass County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The population was 19,206 at the 2010 census.

History

Raymore was founded in 1868 by William Ray, a settler from Kentucky. The town was originally called Ray City, but the name was changed to Raymore in 1881. The town was incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Raymore was a small farming community. The town grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s, as the population of the Kansas City metropolitan area increased. By the 1970s, Raymore had become a bedroom community for Kansas City.

Geography

Raymore is located at 38°46'25" North, 94°27'17" West (38.773611, -94.454722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.2 square miles (29.0 km2), all land.

Economy

Raymore's economy is largely based on retail and services. The city is home to several large retail stores, including Walmart, Target, and Home Depot. There are also several restaurants, banks, and other businesses in the city.
The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a plant owned by the Ford Motor Company.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 19,206 people, 7,072 households, and 5,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,711.2 people per square mile (661.2/km2). There were 7,541 housing units at an average density of 672.2 per square mile (259.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 90.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.3% of the population.
There were 7,072 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $50,945, and the median income for a family was $58,945. Males had a median income of $41,945 versus $30,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $22,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.7% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
