Osceola Summary
Osceola is a city located in St. Clair County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of St. Clair County.
History
Osceola was founded in 1841 and named after the Seminole leader Osceola. The city was incorporated in 1867. The first post office was established in 1845.
Osceola was the site of a major Civil War battle in 1861. The Battle of Osceola was fought between Union and Confederate forces on October 22, 1861. The Union forces were victorious and the Confederate forces retreated.
Geography
Osceola is located at 37°25'25" North, 93°59'45" West (37.423750, -93.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Osceola is a small rural community with a population of 2,845. The economy is largely based on agriculture and small businesses. The city is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,288.6 people per square mile (496.7/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 535.2 per square mile (206.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $30,938, and the median income for a family was $37,500. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,945.
