Glenaire Summary

Glenaire is a small unincorporated community located in St. Louis County, Missouri. It is situated in the northwest corner of the county, just south of the Missouri River. The community is bordered by the cities of St. Charles and St. Peters to the north, and the towns of O'Fallon and St. Paul to the south. The population of Glenaire was estimated to be around 1,000 in 2020.

History

Glenaire was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The community was originally known as "Glenaire Station" and was a stop on the St. Louis and Iron Mountain Railroad. The railroad was built to transport coal from the mines in Iron Mountain, Missouri to St. Louis. The railroad was later replaced by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, which ran through Glenaire until the late 1960s.
In the early 1900s, Glenaire was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a post office, a hotel, and a saloon. The community also had a school, which was built in 1891 and served students from grades one through eight.

Geography

Glenaire is located in the northwest corner of St. Louis County, Missouri. It is situated on the Missouri River, just south of the cities of St. Charles and St. Peters. The community is bordered by the towns of O'Fallon and St. Paul to the south.
