Edgerton Summary

Edgerton, Missouri is a small town located in Platte County, Missouri. It is situated on the banks of the Missouri River, approximately 25 miles north of Kansas City. The town was founded in 1854 and has a population of approximately 500 people.

History

Edgerton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the Edgerton family, who were among the first settlers. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a trading post for the surrounding area. In the late 1800s, the town was a major stop on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The railroad brought in new businesses and people, and the town grew rapidly.
In the early 1900s, Edgerton was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a livery stable. The town also had a school, a post office, and a newspaper.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the railroad moved away and the population decreased. The Great Depression further weakened the town, and by the 1940s, Edgerton was a ghost town.
