Creve Coeur Summary

Creve Coeur, Missouri is a city located in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. It is a suburb of St. Louis and is part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The population was 17,833 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Creve Coeur was first settled in the early 1800s by French-Canadian fur traders. The area was named after a nearby lake, which was named after the French phrase for “heartbreak”. The lake was a popular spot for fishing and swimming, and the area around it became a popular summer resort.
In the late 1800s, the area began to develop as a residential community. The first subdivision was established in 1891, and the first post office was established in 1895. The city was officially incorporated in 1949.

Geography

Creve Coeur is located in St. Louis County, Missouri, at 38°40′N 90°25′W (38.6667, -90.4167). It is bordered by Olivette to the north, Ladue to the east, Town and Country to the south, and Maryland Heights to the west.
The city has a total area of 5.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located on the Missouri River, and is home to several parks and lakes, including Creve Coeur Lake, which is the largest lake in St. Louis County.

Creve Coeur is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several corporate headquarters, including Monsanto, Express Scripts, and Edward Jones.

As of the 2010 census, there were 17,833 people, 7,845 households, and 4,845 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,427.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 81.2% White, 8.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 6.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the population.
