Alma Summary

Alma is a small town located in the northwest corner of Missouri, in the United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, near the Iowa border. The town is located in the Ozark Plateau, and is surrounded by rolling hills and wooded areas. The town is home to a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is the county seat of Harrison County.

History

Alma was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after the daughter of one of the settlers, and was originally known as “Alma’s Town”. The town was incorporated in 1841, and was the first town in Harrison County.
In the late 19th century, Alma was a thriving agricultural community, with a population of over 1,000 people. The town was home to several businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The town also had a school, a post office, and a newspaper.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline, as many of the businesses closed and the population decreased. The town was hit hard by the Great Depression, and many of the businesses closed. The population of the town continued to decline until the 1950s, when the town began to experience a resurgence.
