Cohutta Summary

Cohutta is a small town located in Whitfield County, Georgia, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, approximately 10 miles south of Dalton. The town was founded in 1854 and was named after the Cherokee Chief Cohutta. The population of Cohutta was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Cohutta is located at 34°48'25" North, 84°59'45" West (34.806944, -84.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 315 families residing in the town. The population density was 902.2 people per square mile (348.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 388.3 per square mile (149.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.17% White, 0.37% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races.
