Turner County is located in the south-central part of Georgia, approximately 90 miles south of Atlanta. It is bordered by Wilcox County to the north, Crisp County to the east, Worth County to the south, and Dooly County to the west. The county has a total area of 287 square miles, of which 286 square miles is land and 1 square mile (0.4%) is water.
The county is located in the Lower Flint River sub-basin of the ACF River Basin (Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin). The Flint River forms the western border of the county.

Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 1.7% of the population.
In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 8.2% were English, and 6.2% were Irish. Of the 3,521 households, 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 17.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 28.7% were non-families, and 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals.
