Turner Summary

Turner, Oregon is a small city located in Marion County, Oregon. It is situated in the Willamette Valley, about 10 miles south of Salem, the state capital. The city was founded in 1871 and was named after the Turner family, who were among the first settlers in the area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Turner was 2,788.

History

The area that is now Turner was originally inhabited by the Kalapuya Native American tribe. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1840s, and the first post office was established in 1851. The Turner family arrived in the area in 1871 and established a homestead. The city of Turner was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Turner was a thriving agricultural community, with many farms and orchards in the area. The city was also home to several sawmills and lumber mills.
