History

Shedd was founded in 1871 by William Shedd, a settler from Iowa. He purchased the land from the Oregon and California Railroad Company and established a post office in 1872. The town was originally known as Sheddsville, but the name was changed to Shedd in 1891.
The town was a major stop on the Oregon and California Railroad, and the railroad was the main source of employment for the town's residents. The railroad also brought in many new settlers, and the population of Shedd grew rapidly.
In the early 1900s, Shedd was a thriving agricultural community. The town had several stores, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a school, a church, and a post office.
