Woodbine Summary

Woodbine, Georgia is a small city located in Camden County, Georgia, United States. It is situated on the Satilla River, approximately 30 miles north of the Florida border. The city has a population of 2,845 as of the 2010 census, and is the county seat of Camden County.

History

Woodbine was founded in 1887 by the Georgia and Florida Railroad. The city was named after the woodbine vine, which was abundant in the area. The city was incorporated in 1895 and was the first city in Camden County to be incorporated.
In the early 1900s, Woodbine was a thriving lumber town. The city was home to several sawmills and lumber companies, and the lumber industry was the main source of employment for the city. The lumber industry declined in the mid-1900s, and the city began to focus on other industries, such as tourism and agriculture.

Geography

Woodbine is located at 31°17'N 81°41'W (31.2833, -81.6833). The city is situated on the Satilla River, approximately 30 miles north of the Florida border. The city has a total area of 4.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Climate

Woodbine has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is 68°F, and the average annual precipitation is 51 inches.

Economy

The economy of Woodbine is largely based on tourism and agriculture. The city is home to several tourist attractions, such as the Satilla River Wildlife Management Area, the Woodbine Historic District, and the Woodbine Golf Course. The city is also home to several agricultural businesses, such as poultry farms, cattle farms, and vegetable farms.

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 677.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 16.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
