Resaca Summary

Resaca is a small city located in Gordon County, Georgia, United States. It is situated along the Oostanaula River, approximately 15 miles south of Calhoun, the county seat. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

The area around Resaca was first settled in the early 19th century. The town was named after the nearby Battle of Resaca, which was fought during the American Civil War in 1864. The town was incorporated in 1873.

Geography

Resaca is located at 34°37'25" North, 84°59'45" West (34.623750, -84.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Resaca is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a large poultry farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a convenience store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the city. The population density was 902.2 people per square mile (348.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 388.3 per square mile (149.7/km2).
