Remerton Summary

Remerton is a small city located in Lowndes County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Remerton was founded in 1891 by the Remerton Land and Improvement Company. The company was formed by a group of investors from Valdosta, Georgia, who purchased the land from the estate of William Remerton. The town was named after William Remerton, who had owned the land prior to the purchase.
The town was incorporated in 1895 and was the first incorporated town in Lowndes County. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a manufacturing center.
