Higgston is a small town located in Montgomery County, Georgia, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Oconee River, approximately 20 miles south of Macon. The population was estimated to be around 500 in 2020.

Higgston is located in the southeastern part of Montgomery County, Georgia, at the intersection of Georgia State Route 56 and Georgia State Route 112. History

Higgston was founded in 1820 by William Higgs, a former Revolutionary War soldier. The town was originally known as Higgs Town, but the name was changed to Higgston in 1837. The town was incorporated in 1871 and was the county seat of Montgomery County until 1877, when the county seat was moved to Mount Vernon.
Higgston was a thriving agricultural community in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a post office, a bank, a hotel, and several stores.
