Jenkins County is located in the east-central part of the state of Georgia, in the United States. It is part of the Augusta-Richmond County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Millen. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,340.

History

Jenkins County was created in 1905 from parts of Bulloch, Emanuel, and Screven counties. It was named for the first Confederate general to die in the Civil War, General Albert Sidney Johnston.

Geography

Jenkins County is located in the east-central part of the state of Georgia. It is bordered by Bulloch County to the north, Emanuel County to the east, Screven County to the south, and Burke County to the west. The county has a total area of 441 square miles, of which 439 square miles is land and 2 square miles (0.5%) is water.
The county is located in the Ogeechee River basin and is drained by the Ogeechee River and its tributaries. The county is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part. The highest point in the county is located in the northern part, at an elevation of 545 feet above sea level.

The economy of Jenkins County is largely based on agriculture. The county is home to several large farms, which produce a variety of crops, including cotton, corn, soybeans, and peanuts. The county also has a thriving timber industry, with several sawmills located in the area.
