Glascock County Summary
Glascock County is a county located in the east central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,082, making it the second-least populous county in Georgia. The county seat is Gibson. The county was created on December 14, 1857 from parts of Warren, Jefferson, and McDuffie counties. There were 1,269 housing units at an average density of 7.1 per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 68.2% White, 28.7% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. 2.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06.
The median age in the county was 41.3 years. 22.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.2% were from 25 to 44; 28.2% were from 45 to 64; and 16.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the county was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
