History

Tremont was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the Tremont House, a hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton, corn, and tobacco. In the late 19th century, the town began to grow and develop, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving community.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to several businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and a hotel. In the 1920s, the town was connected to the outside world by the railroad, and this allowed for the growth of the local economy.

Geography

Tremont is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and is part of the Tupelo Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town is situated in the northeastern corner of Itawamba County, and is bordered by the towns of Fulton, Mantachie, and Guntown. The town is located approximately 30 miles north of Tupelo, and is approximately 90 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.
