Fayette Summary

Fayette, Mississippi is a small town located in Jefferson County, Mississippi. It is situated on the banks of the Big Black River, approximately 30 miles south of Jackson, the state capital. The town was founded in 1837 and named after the Marquis de Lafayette, a French military leader who fought in the American Revolutionary War. The population of Fayette was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Fayette is located at 33°25'25" North, 90°51'45" West (33.423, -90.862). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Fayette is a small rural town with a population of 1,845 people. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a few restaurants. The town also has a few manufacturing plants, including a furniture factory and a paper mill. The town is also home to a few small farms.

There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% were married couples living together, 19.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
