Bruce Summary

Bruce, South Dakota is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state. It is situated in the rolling hills of the Missouri River Valley, and is surrounded by the vast prairies of the Great Plains. The town has a population of just over 500 people, and is the county seat of Brule County.

History

The town of Bruce was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The town was named after the nearby Bruce Creek, which was named after a local Native American chief. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers quickly established a post office, a school, and a church.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and prosper. The railroad arrived in 1906, and the town was incorporated in 1909. The railroad brought new businesses and industries to the area, and the town began to grow rapidly. By the 1920s, Bruce had become a thriving agricultural and commercial center.

Geography

Bruce is located in the southeastern corner of South Dakota, in the rolling hills of the Missouri River Valley. The town is situated at an elevation of 1,845 feet above sea level. The town is surrounded by the vast prairies of the Great Plains, and is located about 30 miles from the Nebraska border.
The climate in Bruce is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average annual precipitation is around 17 inches.
