Offerle was founded in 1887 by the Offerle family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The town was originally called Offerle Station, as it was a stop on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Offerle was a thriving agricultural community, with several grain elevators, a bank, a hotel, and a variety of other businesses. The town also had a school, a post office, and a newspaper.
In the 1950s, Offerle began to decline as the railroad stopped running through the town and many of the businesses closed. The population of the town has remained relatively stable since then, with an estimated 200 people living in Offerle in 2020.
